A complete checklist to save you time and money

June is here and there's no better time to get your home ready for warmer weather, summer storms and family BBQs than the present! In this post, we've put together some simple tips to make summer home maintenance easy. To get started, we recommend breaking things down into three categories - Home and Exterior, Landscaping, and Miscellaneous.

If your home exterior could use a good scrubbing, it may be worthwhile to rent or buy a pressure washer. A pressure washer can get your siding, gutters, porch or patio looking great in no time. To make your paver patio appear good as new, fill in the cracks with fresh sand. You can purchase sand and supplies at your local home store.

Landscaping is a big part of any spring cleanup and depending on the size of your yard, it can be a project. Start by raking leaves, weeding and pruning. Then start your mulching and focus on getting your lawn in order. You can fertilize and re-seed throughout the spring and summer months, or contact your local lawncare company to set up a monthly maintenance plan. There are plenty of reputable options in the greater Lancaster County area.

One of the most important things you can do for your home this spring falls into the "Miscellaneous" category. Aside from cleaning up your patio furniture and sparking up the grill or checking your fences and driveway, make sure to check on your septic system!

Ask yourself the following questions:

  • Is your septic system functioning properly?
  • Is your drainfield healthy (no wet spots or soggy areas)?
  • Are your sinks and toilets draining and flushing properly?
  • Has your septic system been pumped within the last 2-3 years?
If you answer "no" to any of the above, be sure to give us a call. Your septic system is your home's most expensive utility so proper maintenance is essential! We recommend having your septic tank thoroughly cleaned and emptied every 2-3 years, regardless of your township requirement as some allow longer between pumpings.
