When Roots Got Into this Customer's Sewer Line, We Came to Help

Sewer Line Repair in Lancaster, Pa

One of the things we tell all of our customers when they install a septic system is to be careful where they plant trees or shrubs because roots can be detrimental to a septic system if they grow in/around your pipes. The same is true for sewer lines. This customer did not have a septic system, but they called us for line-opening services when their sinks and toilets starting draining slowly. They assumed there was a clog in their main sewer line, and we did too.

When our jet was unsuccessful at removing the "clog" we decided to use our camera line to take a closer look at the problem. At this point we hadn't done any digging, but we noticed two large trees on either side of the customer's yard - the sewer line was in the middle. Sure enough, our camera revealed there were roots in the line which must have worked their way into the piping over the course of many years.

How do you fix an issue like roots in your sewer line? We work with an awesome excavator and septic repair company, Sam's Backhoe & Septic Repairs, so we gave them a call to come out and do some digging. Owner, Sam Iacono, arrived with his backhoe and we went to work locating the sewer line and access point. It was a day-long process but we were able to uncover the "root of the problem" (pun intended) and replace the damaged piping with new PVC pipe and cut out the roots that were causing the problems.

For many homeowners, sticking to your township's required pumping schedule can keep things in working order and you'll never have a backup, for others the answer is not as straightforward. If you have a large family or you run a business from home that uses lots of water like a hair salon or pet grooming business, your system is going to process a lot more wastewater than the average family of four.
