5 Reasons to Install Septic Tank Risers

And how they can save you money!

For most homeowners, the septic system is an “out of site, out of mind” utility that receives little or no attention until problems arise. Septic systems are buried underground and if you’re not sure exactly where your tank and its components are located, it can be difficult to find your access ports or manhole covers. Septic tank risers are a simple, cost-effective solution to this problem that can provide long-term savings. Keep reading to learn more about how John Kline Septic Services can save you money with septic tank riser installation in Lancaster Pa and beyond.

What is a septic tank riser?
A septic tank riser is a large diameter concrete or plastic pipe that runs vertically from the pump-out openings or access ports at the top of a septic tank up to ground level. Risers or "extensions" come in various heights to bring any access port to grade. A lid fits securely on the top of the riser and sits flush with the ground, eliminating digging and searching. Because the riser extends from your tank opening to the lawn surface, it makes accessing your septic tank for pumping, maintenance and inspections much easier.

The Installation Process
Our crew installs extensions on a regular basis. Installation requires digging down to your septic tank lid or access port and fitting the riser to the opening. We’ll choose a riser that will extend to your lawn’s surface or cut one to size when possible. When it’s in place we’ll fill the area surrounding the pipe with dirt and secure the lid on top. You’re welcome to plant grass or mulch around the top to make the lid blend seamlessly into your yard and landscaping.

The Benefits
There are a variety of benefits when it comes to septic tank risers.
  1. Installing a riser is a one-time cost with long-term benefits.
Once the extension is in place you won’t need to pay for it again and your tank will be easy to access for pumping, maintenance and inspections.
  2. No more searching for your access ports!
When we bring your manhole cover to grade it will be visible at all times.
  3. No more digging!
This is especially beneficial during the winter months when digging open a buried manhole cover can take hours. Not to mention the mess it can make in your yard if the lid is multiple feet underground.
  4. It saves you money.
Time is money! And when it’s easier to access your septic tank, our crew can get your job done or your problem fixed a lot faster.
  5. It’s important to know where things are located.
If you're planning a new patio, home addition or backyard project, knowing exactly where your tank and its components are located is a huge help. We’ll even draw you a diagram if you need it!
