Simple Tips for a Hassle Free Clean-Out

When it comes to septic systems, it's better to be safe than to be sorry. We recommend a thorough clean out every 2-3 years, to make sure things are flushing smoothly! A routine septic pumping service will cost between $189 - $300 depending on where you live, and the size of your septic tank. Larger tanks = more gallons of waste to haul, and we know that with the holidays just around the corner, many families are pinching their pennies! With that in mind, today we're sharing a few ways you can save yourself money on your next septic service. Keep reading to learn more, or contact us today for your Central Pa septic service needs.

  1. Save Money on Heavy Solids Charges by Sticking to a Routine Maintenance Schedule
When you postpone your septic service in an attempt to save money, you are often times setting yourself up for a problem down the road, or a heavy solids charge at your next service. When a septic tank hasn't been serviced in 5+ years, solids can become an issue, and disposal costs can add up. Not only do solids mean your tank isn't processing waste efficiently, it can add labor time for crew to clean out your tank, and fees at the disposal plant. Stick to a 2-3 year schedule and this is a problem you can avoid altogether, so that the price listed for your township is the price you will pay. 2. Save Money on Unexpected Backups and In-Between Services
Nothing will add to your utilities expenses like an unexpected septic backup that requires night or weekend service. We are happy to help you out when you need it, but we know how after-hours and holiday rates can add up. To save yourself the money, stick to these basic septic system rules to prevent backups in between cleanout services.

  3. Never flush grease, paint harsh chemicals or food scraps down the drain.
  4. Avoid using a garbage disposal - this is huge for septic system owners!
  5. Be careful about flushing wipes or feminine products down the drain. "When in doubt, throw them out!"

  6. Save Money on Digging Fees and Labor
If you know where your septic tank lid is located, be sure it's at grade or you've dug it open for us before your service. If we have to dig it open we may need to charge for labor depending on how deep the access point is located. Simple solution for future clean outs - have us install a riser or "extension" to bring your manhole cover to grade. This is fairly inexpensive and the one-time service will save you time and money for future septic service.

In addition to these helpful ways to save money on your next septic service, you can also save $10 when you schedule with your neighbor! So if you know you're soon due for a clean out, chances are your neighbor is too. Schedule for the same day and save money when you save us a trip! For many homeowners, sticking to your township's required pumping schedule can keep things in working order and you'll never have a backup, for others the answer is not as straightforward. If you have a large family or you run a business from home that uses lots of water like a hair salon or pet grooming business, your system is going to process a lot more wastewater than the average family of four.
